Bethany Gettings
Bethany Gettings is a second-year Ph.D. student and a Discipline-Based Education Researcher
(DBER) within the Long Lab.
Research for her master’s thesis explored the effects of a partially-flipped biology
classroom on developing an understanding of inquiry-based instruction in preservice
teachers. Currently, her research explores mechanisms underlying trends observed among
middle-achieving students in a modelling-based biology course.
Application of novel computational approaches learned through the NRT fellowship will
allow her to assess differences in student approaches to modelling and identify potentially
unique course motivators and affective qualities through methods that are not ordinarily
employed in the DBER field.
